BCG Member Spotlight:
Dianna
Say hello to Dianna, now in her third season at the Benson Community Garden! She’s a devoted tomato grower — “Tomatoes are my one true love” — but she also enjoys the simplicity of growing potatoes in bags and broccoli in containers at home.
Gardening runs in the family. “My mom taught me much of what I know, and she passed on what she learned from my grandpa.” Dianna also gardens in her backyard, but loves the full sun her plot here provides.
Outside the garden, Dianna is a Physician Assistant at Nebraska Medicine, and when she’s not digging in the dirt, she enjoys traveling and music.
What does she love about being part of the community garden? The chance to learn something new each season. Her advice:
“If you fail at something one season, try again a couple of times! Sometimes a plant dies due to things outside your control, but each season you’ll learn something that will make you a better gardener.”
If she could grow anything, regardless of Nebraska climate? “I wish I could grow avocados in my backyard! I tried with a potted indoor tree but had no luck with fruiting.”
