BCG Member Spotlight: Isaac & Nick

Plot C-1

Meet Isaac and Nick, first-year members of the Benson Community Garden — and already two of the most plant-passionate folks we’ve met! While Nick is all about growing tomatoes, Isaac has been especially excited about their very first attempt at carrots.

Their gardening journey is rooted in a lifelong journey: Nick grew up gardening with his mom, while Isaac’s plant obsession started with houseplants and eventually spilled outdoors. Their apartment is filled with plants in every room, plus aquariums and terrariums with frogs, fish, tropical plants, and a bearded dragon (not to mention cats Hocus and Hero).

Even their offices are overrun with greenery!

When they’re not gardening, Nick works as a professional Divemaster, and both love scuba diving and the performing arts.

What they love most about the garden? The people. “Everyone is so friendly and generous,” they shared. “We lost some plants recently and fellow gardeners Leslie and Jordan came over and gave us new ones — that meant so much. That’s what being part of a community is all about.”

Their advice to new gardeners? “Join a community garden, don’t be afraid to ask questions, and try your best.”

Oh — and if they could grow anything and space (and smell) weren’t an issue? They’d grow a Corpse Flower. Because why not?
